Your Support is Important.

You have the power to help the WOP provide opportunities for women to create film projects, without asking our members to pay a dime for their participation.

Donations further our efforts to give women creative liberties in the film industry.

Your contribution adds to the ongoing empowerment of women and the creation of leadership and entrepreneurship roles in media.

Our members know all too well the gender bias in financing, which  is sited as "the foremost obstacle to a women's career development in film." Game Changer Films

We know that when a woman is in the director's chair there is likely to be a higher proportion of women in all other departments and female characters on screen are likely to be more multi-dimensional. At the WOP we celebrate female comradery in an underrepresented field.

Women in Film Facts:

From 2013-2014 women comprised 27% of creators, executive producers, producers, writers, directors, editors, and directors of photography working on prime-time programs airing on broadcast networks.

Females accounted for 15% of protagonists, 29% of major characters, and 30% of all speaking characters of the top 100 films in 2013. Study done at San Diego State University

In 2014 only 17% of behind the scenes workers on films were women. Women accounted for 7% of directors. Anne Hornaday - Washington Post

77% of Oscar voters are male. In 85 years only 7 women producers have won an Oscar for Best Picture, but ALL were co-producers with men. Only 8 women have won an Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay in 73 years. In 2013, 140 Oscar nominations were for men, 35 nominations went to women. In Academy history only 4 females have been nominated for Best Director with only 1 win by Kathryn Bigelow in 2010. New York Film Academy
